The University of Sydney is a public university of higher education in Sydney, Australia. It is a research university. It was established in 1850. The Motto of this university is the stars change, the mind remains the same. This university is also known as Sydney University or USYD.
Sydney University was one of the country’s 6 sandstone universities. This university comprises 8 academic faculties and university schools through which it offers Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees.
University of Sydney History
William Wentworth and Charles Nicholson proposed a plan to extend the existing Sydney College into a large university in the New South Wales Legislative Council in 1848. Wentworth argued that a State Secular University was essential for the development of a society aspiring towards self-government.
It would provide the opportunity for the child to become a great and useful student of his country. Under the University of Sydney Act 1850, this university was founded on September 24, 1850. The passage of the Electoral Act in 1858 provided for the university to become an electorate for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as soon as there were 100 graduates of the university holding higher degrees qualified for application.

From 1881, this university was one of the first universities in the world to admit women on an equal basis with men. PhD research degree was started in 1947 in this university. The following bodies were included in the university in 1990 under the terms of the Higher Education Act 1989:

Sydney University chancellor Leonie Kramer was forced to resign in 2001 by the university governing body. The Public Service Association of New South Wales and the Community and Public Sector Union were in argument with the university over a proposal to privatize security at the main campus in 2005. This university adopted a new logo at the start of 2010. It keeps the same university arms but it takes on a more modern look.

University of Sydney Campus
Main Campus
The main campus of this university is the extended city suburbs of Camperdown and Darlington. It is listed for its beautiful architecture. The government approved land in Gorse Farm to the university which is about 3km from the city and which is now the main Camperdown campus in 1855.
The Great Hall was completed in 1858 and in 1859 the Main Building was built. The Camperdown or Darlington campus houses the Administrative Headquarters and the Faculties of Arts, Science, Pharmacy, Veterinary Science, Education and Social Work, Economics and Business, Architecture, and Engineering of the university.
