The University of Neuchatel is a French-speaking and public research university in Neuchatel, Switzerland. It was established in 1838. Also, this university is known as UniNE.

University of Neuchatel History

This university was founded as the Academy of Neuchatel in 1838. It granted Licentiate academic degrees in Arts and sciences. Grand Council ordered the closing of this academy in 1848. In 1866, a new academy was established.

This institution had the faculties of Letters, Sciences, and Law, and Gymnasium. The Theology faculty was created at this institution in 1873. According to the order of the Majestic Council of Neuchatel on May 18, 1909, the Academy of Neuchatel was converted into the University of Neuchatel.
