By the Colony of Victoria in the 19th century, it is one of the Australia 6 Sandstone universities. It is a member of the Universitas 21, Group of Eight, Washington University McDonnell International Scholars Academy, and Association of Pacific Rim Universities. Several residential colleges became affiliated with this university and provided residence to the students and faculty.
University of Melbourne History
The university was founded by following a proposal from Hugh Childers, the Finance Minister and Auditor General in his first Budget Speech on November 4, 1852. In January 1853, this university was founded by the Act of Incorporation with the authority to grant degrees in Arts, Medicine, Laws, and Music.
This act provided an annual donation of almost £9,000. In 1855, classes at this university started with three professors and there were only 16 students. Melbourne University extended its offerings to more effective courses in the early 1900s.
The number of students enrolled at this university increased to 500 students for the first time. Like other institutions, the university faculty members selected to use telecommunication platforms like Microsoft Team, Skype, or Zoom Video Communications to conduct live tutorials.
It also provides interactive online learning experiences. All National Tertiary Education Union members who work in the Victorian College of Arts, Faculty of Arts, Melbourne Law School, Student Services, and Stagecraft will start a 5 to 7-day strike.

University of Melbourne Campuses
This university has three campuses in metropolitan Melbourne:
- Burnley
- Southbank
- Werribee
Horticultural courses are taught at the Burnley campus. Visual Arts, Film and Television, Performing Arts, and Music courses are taught at the Southbank Campus and Veterinary Science is taught at the Werribee Campus.

Burnley
This campus of the university is located in the suburb of Burnley in Melbourne. It is around 5km east of the Melbourne CBD. This campus is devoted to Ornamental and Environmental Horticulture. It is surrounded by 9 hectares of Heritage Listed Gardens.
In 1891, this campus started operating as a learning precinct in horticultural education. Also, students are offered associate degrees; short courses post-graduate studies, and research at this campus.
Creswick
Creswick Campus is situated in the township of Creswick. It is almost 120km northwest of Melbourne. It is located on 15 hectares of land.
