UNIL was created as the school of protestant theology and granted the position of the University of Lausanne in 1890. Campuses at the University of Lausanne

Main Campus

The Main campus of this university is outside of Lausanne on the shores of Leman Lake in Dorigny.  It is next to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. It is provided by the Lausanne Metro Line 1 (M1).

The UNIL and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology share an active sports center situated on the campus on the shores of Lake Geneva. Also, the campus of this university has a Bicycle Sharing System. This campus of the university is made up of separate buildings with a Park and Arboretum.

Also, the library of the university serves as an Eating Hall and is in the center of the city. The vision is from the library across the sports fields to the Lake of Geneva and the French and Swiss Alps. Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps & Western Europe. It can be seen on a clear day. Also, the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law is situated on this campus of the university.

Other Sites

This university also has other sites besides its Main Campus. Also, the Faculty of Biology & Medicine is situated in two other sites around the University Hospital of Lausanne which is also known as CHUV & in Epalinges which is to the north of Lausanne.

Department of Biochemistry, the Ludwig Cancer Research branch of this university, the World Health Organization (WHO) Immunology Research and Training Center, and some of the laboratories of the CHUV are in Epalinges. Also, the Faculty of Biology and Medicine contains the 4th site, the Psychiatric Hospital of Cery, in Prilly.
