University of California, Los Angeles is a public institution of higher education in Los Angeles, California. It is a land grant research university. This university was founded in 1919. It is also known as UCLA. The Motto of this university in English is Let there be light. This university has been considered a Public Ivy.
University of California History
At the request of Reginaldo Francisco del Valle in 1881, the California State Legislature approved the formation of a Southern branch of the California State Normal School in Los Angeles to train teachers for the increasing population of Southern California.
This branch was opened on 29 August 1882. Its facility involved a Demonstration School where teachers in training could practice their techniques with children. The branch campus became independent in 1887 and changed its name to Los Angeles State Normal School.
This school moved to Vermont Avenue in 1914 in East Hollywood. In 1919, it was absorbed with the official founding of this university as the Southern Branch of the University of California which made it the 2nd oldest of the 10th campus of the University of California system after the University of California, Berkeley.
On September 15, the Southern Branch campus was opened. It was offering 2-year undergraduate programs to 250 Junior College students and 1,250 students in the Teachers College.
In the middle of the 1920s, enrollment at the Southern Branch extended speedily under William Wallace Campbell. The Regents renamed the Southern Branch to the University Of California At Los Angeles on February 1, 1927.

In 1934, the official charity of this university is UniChamp. This is an almost one-week summer camp for underserved children from Los Angeles with volunteer counselors. UniCamp runs for almost 7 weeks through the summer at Camp River Glen in the San Bernardino National Forest because it is a nonprofit organization student volunteers from UCLA.
Also, fundraise money throughout the year to allow these children to attend summer camp. Pediatric AIDS Coalition organizes the annual Dance Marathon in Pauley Pavilion where thousands of students raise at least $250 and dance for 26 hours to support Project Kindle, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the UCLA AIDS Institute.
