Qatar University is a public institution of higher education in Doha, Qatar. It was established in 1973. It is also known as QU. This university is committed to providing High-Quality Education in the area of National Priority.

Qatar University History

In 1973, this institution was founded as the College of Education from the Emir of Qatar by a Decree. This college started with 150 students out of which 93 were women and 57 were men. In 1977, this college was expanded to become the University of Qatar with four colleges which were Education, Humanities and Social Science, Sharia and Law, and Islamic Studies & Science.

The College of Engineering was founded after the 3 years. The number of students at that time was almost 2,600. In 1985, the College of Business and Economics was established. The new Colleges encouraged a large development of the university campus which was overseen by Kamal El Kafrawi.

At this university, the number of registrants for the study had reached almost 7660 male and female students by the Fall Semester of 2005 or 2006. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Misnad was the President of the university between 2003 and 2015.

She left in 2015 and Hassan Rashid Al-Derham was her replacement who holds the position currently and became the 6^th President of the university. The university awarded its Honorary Doctorate Degree to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in December 2015.
