History of Polytechnic Institute of Paris

The hurried growth of nuclear Physics and chemistry meant that research required more and more powerful accelerators which required large areas after World War II. These institutes were grouped as a university community in 2015 called the Paris Saclay University.

Finally, the Orsay branch of the University of Paris became an independent university and called Paris Sud University. Polytechnic University tied the region by moving from central Paris to Palaiseau in 1976.

Other institutes tied the region in the following 10 years which most notable being ENS Paris Saclay, ENST as a part of the Paris Saclay project in order a national effort of regroup and business activities.

The objective was to be known as an institution of sufficient size and quality and to become a top-ranking research-focused French university.

Every member of the institution would remain independent but share a major portion of existing and newly invested resources. This follows a model as like to the one adopted by the University of Oxford and Cambridge where each integral college keeps its independence while being grouped under a university.

In 2017, confronted with disagreements between its members French Ministry of Defense against the Ministry of Higher Education, the University of Paris Sud planned to transform itself into Paris-Saclay University with the engineering schools being related only to the future institution.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the formation of a second university pole in Paris Saclay which would divide away from Paris Saclay University and regroup the engineering schools on October 25, 2017. Primarily, this new pole was called New Uni and became the Polytechnic Institute of Paris in February 2019.

University Pole

Also, HEC Paris joined the new university pole and other Higher Education Institutions may join in the future. Paris-Saclay University and the Polytechnic Institute of Paris cooperate in numerous Master’s Degrees and PhD Programs.  The Institute co-founded with HEC Paris and the Artificial Intelligence Research Center Hi!
