New York University History
The Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin under James Madison and Thomas Jefferson affirmed his objective to form a system of practical and rational fitting and courteously opened to all.
In 1830, a three-day-long Literary and Scientific Convention held in the City Hall and attended by more than 100 delegates debated the terms of a plan for a new university. The institution that would become New York University was founded with the help of a group of New York City residents from the city merchants, traders, and bankers.
This new institution received its agreement and was integrated as the University of the City of New York by the New York State Legislature. In 1876, the American Chemical Society was established at NYU. This institution was renamed as the New York University In 1896. In 917, it became one of the largest national universities with an enrollment of 9,300.
This university purchased a campus at University Heights in the Bronx because of excess numbers on the old campus. NYU was associated with the Association of American Universities in 1950 which is a non-profit organization of public and private research universities.

New York University Campus
The New York City University involves over 171 buildings extending between Manhattan and Brooklyn.
