Mount Everest is a proper noun that refers to the highest peak in the world.

Definition

Mount Everest also known as Sagarmatha in Nepali and Chomolungma in Tibetan, is a mountain located in the Himalayas on the border of Nepal and China (Tibet Autonomous Region). The elevation is approximately 8,848.86 meters (29,031.7 feet) above sea level. Famous for its extreme height and challenging climbing conditions.

Etymology

The name Mount Everest was given by the British Surveyor General of India, Andrew Waugh, in 1865. He named it after Sir George Everest, a Welsh geographer and Surveyor General of India from 1830 to 1843. However, it is worth noting that the mountain is known by different names in local languages.
