Delhi University is a public central university of higher education in Delhi, India. It was established in 1922. The Motto of this university in English is Dedication, Steadfastness & Truth. This university is also known as DU.

About Delhi University

In 1922, this university was founded as a Unitary, Teaching & Residential University by the Act of the Central Legislative Assembly which was a strong commitment to excellence in Teaching, Research & Social Outreach has made the university an example and leader for other universities.

The President of India is the Visitor & the Vice-President is the Chancellor of this university. Also, The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India is the Pro-Chancellor of the University. Starting with 3 colleges and 750 students, it has grown into one of the largest universities in India with an equal number of colleges and more than 7 lack students.

More than 500 programs offered by the university are approved by Academic and Executive Councils out of which 209 programs are being considered for NAAC accreditation purposes. This university has emerged as a symbol of Excellence, Integrity, and Openness of Thought, Speech, and Action.

Present Form of Delhi University

This university has grown as one of the largest universities in India. There are almost 16 Faculties, 86 Academic Departments & 91 Colleges spread across the city with almost 132,435 regular students. There are almost 261,169 students in nonformal education programs.

The Chemistry, Geology, Zoology, Sociology, and History Departments of this university have been awarded the status of Centers of Advanced Studies. Further, a number of the departments of the university receive grants under the Special Assistance Program of the University Grants Commission in appreciation of their outstanding academic work.

This university changed its admission pattern from the 12% mark based on the Central Universities Common Entrance Test from the year 2022. Now, it will admit students based on their Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUET) scores. It is one of the most preferred institutions of higher education in India.

Also, it has one of the highest publication counts among Indian universities. The annual Honorary Degree ceremony of the university has been conferred upon several people including Film Actor Amitabh Bachchan, Cartoonist R. K. Laxman, Former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit, Chemist C. N. R. Rao and former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Gordon Brown.

Sports at Delhi University

Delhi University Stadium is a Rugby Sevens Stadium located on the the North Campus. It is spread over more than10, 000 square meters. The stadium has a seating capacity of almost 2,500 permanent and 7,500 temporary seats. Its construction began in 2008 and the stadium was inaugurated in July 2010.

Also, it includes a Training Area for Netball, Boxing, Women’s wrestling, and athletics. After the games, the stadium was handed over to the university by Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee. It creates a multi-purpose arena with both outdoor and indoor facilities.
