The founder of this university was Amos G. Throop. This university is answerable for much modern scientific advancement. It is along with a small group of Institutes of Technology in the United States. CIT is generally considered to be one of the world’s most high-status universities due to its history of Technological Innovation.
This institution was established as a preparatory and vocational School. In the early 20th century, this university started attracting dominant scientists such as Robert Andrews Millikan, George Ellery Hale, and Arthur Amos Noyes.
California Institute of Technology History
CIT began as a vocational school established in Old Pasadena on Fair Oaks Avenue and Chestnut Street. Before receiving its current name in 1920, this school was known as Throop University, Throop Polytechnic Institute, and Throop College of Technology.
Throop shifted to its current site in 1910. In 1920 under the leadership of Millikan, Noyes, and Hale, Caltech grew to national fame and concerted on the progress of Roosevelt Hundredth Man. The Einstein Papers Project has been situated at California University since 2000.
This project was founded to assemble, translate, preserve, and publish papers selected from the literary estate of Albert Einstein. CIT started offering classes through Massive Open Online Courses under Coursera in 2012. This university achieved a gift of almost $750 Million for sustainability research from The Wonderful Company.

California Institute of Technology Campus
The primary campus of this university is situated in Pasadena, California. It is almost 18km northeast of downtown Los Angeles. This campus is within walking distance of the Old Town Pasadena and the Pasadena Playhouse District.
Hale appointed an architect whose name was Bertram Goodhue to produce a master plan for the 22-acre campus in the 1960s. An Earthquake in San Fernando whose magnitude was 6.6 caused some damage to the CIT campus in 1971.
The campus’s new addition involves the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Center for Information Science and Technology and the Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics opened in 2009 and in March 2010.

Annual Events
Dabney House conducts the infamous Millikan Pumpkin Drop Experiment from the top of Millikan Library every Halloween. Another long-standing custom is the playing of Wagner Ride of the Valkyries each morning at 7:00 during finals week with the loudest speakers available.
Pranks
CIT students have been also known for their pranks. Pranking has been formally encouraged by Tom Mannion for Student Affairs and campus life in recent years.
