Presidency College is a government college of higher learning in Chennai, Tamil Nadu India. It was established in 1840. In the English language, its motto is This inspired return. This college is also recognized as Presidencies.
Establishment of the Presidency College
This college was formed as Madras Preparatory School. After that, it became a Madras High School on April 12, 1841. In 1857, this school transferred into Presidency College when the University of Madras was established. This college shifted to its existing site in 1870 in Kamaraj Salai which is opposite the Marine Beach.
