Technical University of Munich History
19th Century
King Ludwig II of Bavaria established the Munich Polytechnic School with Karl Maximilian von Bauernfeind as founding director in 1868.
The new school had its site at Arcisstraße where it is situated still today. Around 350 students were managed by 24 professors and 21 lecturers. This institution was divided into six departments which were:

- Chemical Technical Department
- Agricultural Department
The Munich Polytechnic School became the Munich Technical University in 1877. It was granted with the award of Doctorates in 1901.
Munich Technical University became the largest technical university with an average student of 2600 to 2800. This institution was renamed the Technical University of Munich in 1970.
20th Century
After the Bavarian government had allowed women to study at technical universities in the German Empire in 1906, Anna Boyksen became the first female student to enroll in Electrical Engineering.
Munich Technical University faced the challenge of limited resources and was drained into radical political conflicts during the Great Depression, the November Revolution, and the rise of Adolf Hitler during the Weimar Republic. TH Munich managed wide-ranging research in weapons to support the war effort.
21st Century
TU Munich Asia is an institute of research and education and was established in 2002. It is located in Singapore in cooperation with the National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University. Also, the School of Management and Department of Sport and Health Sciences were founded in 2002.
Weihenstephan Departments of this university were merged into the “Weihenstephan Centre of Life and Food Sciences which would become the School of Life Sciences. The university consists of 15 schools and departments with the foundation of the School of Education in 2009, the School of Governance in 2016, and the Department of Aerospace and Geodesy in 2018.
