Paris Sciences and Letters University is a public institution of higher education in Paris, France. It was founded in 2010. The Motto of this university in English is “Dare to know”. It is also known as PSL University or PSL.

This university awards Bachelor, Master, and PhD diplomas for its component schools and institutes. PSL offers education-based research and interdisciplinary instruction and almost 17,000 of its students have access to a wide range of disciplines in Engineering, Science, Humanities, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, and Performing Arts.

Paris Sciences and Letters University History

The institutions in the Latin Quarter began thinking of how to join forces to boost their international visibility in 2004. In 2006, French law on research encouraged the formation of research networks and tiled the way for new projects such as Paris University PRES Paris Tech and an in-the early hour’s version of the PSL project.

The new organization joined 5 institutions of higher education in the Latin Quarter This new institution is called Paris Sciences et Lettres. These five institutions submitted a joint application for the Initiatives for Excellence as part of the France Investing for the Future program in 2011.

After a comprehensive review process in 2017, 9 institutions contracted to put in place an integrated budget and a multi-year policy for academic recruitment as well as to create several shared platforms and services.

One of its former members in 2018, The School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences did not approve the new statutes. It decided not to be part of the target University.
