About The University of Technology Sydney
History
The NSW Parliament passed an Act to establish an Institute of Technology in 1940, which led to the establishment of the New South Wales Institute of Technology in 1964. The NSW Institute of Technology was merged with the NSW Institute of Business Studies in 1968. NSWIT established the first law school in NSW outside the university sector in 1976.
The Haymarket campus officially opened in 1985. It was reconstituted as the University of Technology Sydney in 1988, with the former Sydney College of the Arts incorporating the School of Design.
This shifted to the city campus after redevelopment. The Kuring-Gai campus closed at the end of 2015, with facilities and classes moving to the main Haymarket campus. This marked the consolidation of UTS into a single unified campus in Sydney.
