Yale University is a private institution of higher education in New Haven, Connecticut. It is an Ivy League research university. It was established in 1701. The Motto of this university in English is Light and Truth. It is the 3rd oldest institution in the United States.
Before the American Revolution, it was chartered as one of the 9 Colonial Colleges. This university is structured into 14 constituent schools. In 1701, the Collegiate School was founded by Congregationalists. The college extended into graduate and professional instruction in the 19th century.
In 1861, it was awarded the first PhD in the United States. It was organized as a university in 1887. After 1890, its faculty and population of students grew rapidly with the extension of Scientific Research Programs and of the Physical Campus.
Yale University History
Yale traces its early stages to An Act for Liberty to Erect a Collegiate School a would-be charter passed during a meeting in New Haven by the General Court of the Colony of Connecticut in 1701. This Act was an attempt to construct an institution to train ministers and arrange leadership for Connecticut.
As a result, soon a group of ten Ministers met in the study of Reverend which is situated in Branford, Connecticut to contribute their books to form the school library. This group was led by James Pierpont. It is currently known as The Founders.
Collegiate School known from its origin opened in the house of its first rector Abraham Pierson. In 1703, the school shifted to Saybrook when Nathaniel Lynde donated land and a building. It moved to New Haven in 1716.
In 1781, Samuel Andrew Governor Gurdon Saltonstall, and Cotton Mather contacted the successful Boston-born businessman Elihu Yale to ask him for financial help in forming a new building for the college. The school changed its name to Yale College at the suggestion of Cotton Mather. Yale College was renamed Yale University under the presidency of Timothy Dwight V in 1887.

Yale University Campus
The central campus of this university is in downtown New Haven. It covers 260 acres and consists of its Historic, Main, and Medical campus adjacent to the Yale New Haven Hospital. This university holds 500 acres of athletic facilities involving Yale Golf Course in western New Haven.
Yale purchased 17 buildings of 136 acres former Bayer HealthCare complex in West Haven in 2008. Now, these buildings are used as Laboratory and Research Spaces. It also has own 7 forests in Connecticut. This university is listed for its largely Collegiate Gothic Campus.

From 1917 to 1931, many of the buildings of this university were constructed in the Collegiate Gothic Architecture Style. Travel + Leisure listed its campus as one of the most beautiful in the United States. Connecticut Hall is the oldest building on campus which was built in 1750 in Georgian style.
